VICBrick Intermediate Bus Converters (IBC)

The VICBrick Intermediate Bus Converter series offers unprecedented performance in an industry standard quarter brick format.

  • 1 or 2 V•I Chip BCMs mounted on a PCB
  • Industry standard ¼-brick format
  • Up to 100 A or 600 W output
  • Intermediate Bus voltages from 3 to 48 Vdc
  • Efficiencies >96%
  • 600 W <11¢/W @ only 5k units

Features & Benefits:

Power Density
With up to 360 W/in3, the VIC based IBCs are double the power density of competitive products.

Price
A 600 W VIC IBC is less than $0.11/watt in only 5,000 piece quantities. This is a significant reduction in cost over competing products, especially given the improvements in performance.

Efficiency
With efficiencies ranging from 96 to 97.5% (depending on output voltage), VIC IBCs greatly reduce thermal management problems.

Transient Response
VIC IBCs react 500 times faster to a load change than conventional IBCs. This allows for the elimination of large amounts of storage capacitance on the board - capacitance that is not only costly and space consuming but also a major reliability factor.

Output Voltage Selection
With 10 standard output voltages available (3, 4, 6, 8, 9.6, 12, 16, 24, 32, and 48), VIC IBCs provide much more flexibility to the power architect.

Sine Amplitude ZCS/ZVS Architecture
Vicor's patented Sine Amplitude Converter with zero-voltage and zero-current switching topology results in IBCs with far lower input conducted noise and output ripple, reducing the number, size and cost of filter components. ZCS and ZVS also result in lower stresses on switching components, lengthening their life and improving MTBF.
